This status covers the reviewed Caltrans District 10 SR-4 interval from the Lake Alpine gate east through Ebbetts Pass to the SR-4 / SR-89 junction.
It doesn't include SR-4 west of the Lake Alpine gate, including the unclaimed stretch from the Bear Valley / SR-207 junction to Lake Alpine; SR-89 east of the SR-4 / SR-89 junction toward Markleeville or Monitor Pass; or local and facility roads beyond the reviewed interval. Those state-highway portions may remain visible on route-wide pages but do not contribute to the Ebbetts Pass verdict. Verify excluded state-highway portions separately before traveling.
Conditions can change quickly in the mountains. This page never replaces chain requirements, closures, or official Caltrans guidance. This boundary supports no claim about Bear Valley access, the SR-4 stretch west of Lake Alpine, SR-89 toward Markleeville or Monitor Pass, local or facility roads, reopening timing, or any road outside the reviewed interval. Neither surface makes a safe-to-drive or all-clear claim.
