This status covers the modeled SR-89 approach from the Placer / Nevada county line to the Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows entrances.

It doesn't include I-80 to Truckee (covered on the Truckee and I-80 pages), the SR-89 corridor between Tahoe City and Truckee outside this modeled span (covered on the Tahoe City page), SR-89 south of the modeled span including Emerald Bay, or Olympic Valley Road and Alpine Meadows Road beyond their SR-89 junctions, which are unmonitored local roads.

Conditions can change quickly in the mountains. This page never replaces chain requirements, closures, or official Caltrans guidance. This boundary supports no claim about SR-89 south of the modeled span, Emerald Bay, or conditions beyond either local-road junction. Neither surface makes a safe-to-drive or all-clear claim.
